Continuing Medical Education (CME) plays a vital role in maintaining licensure and staying updated with medical advancements. South Carolina has specific CME requirements for MD and DO physicians to ensure they provide the highest quality care. Understanding these requirements is essential for compliance and professional development.

South Carolina CME Requirements for MD and DO Physicians:

  • Total CME Credits: Physicians must complete 40 hours of CME every 2 years.
  • Category 1 Credits: All 40 hours must be Category 1 credits.
  • Specialty Practice Requirement: At least 30 of the 40 hours must be related directly to the licensee’s practice area.
  • Controlled Substances: Physicians must complete at least two (2) hours related to approved procedures for prescribing and monitoring schedules II-IV controlled substances.

Fulfilling these requirements ensures that South Carolina MD and DO physicians remain current in their medical practice and provide the best care to their patients.
