Continuing Medical Education (CME) is an essential component of professional development for physicians. In Oklahoma, the state medical board has established specific CME requirements to ensure that physicians maintain a high standard of care and stay updated with the latest medical advancements. Understanding these requirements is crucial for compliance and professional growth.

CME Requirements for Oklahoma MD and DO Physicians:

  • Total CME Credits: Physicians must complete 60 hours of CME every 3 years.
  • Category 1 Credits: All 60 hours must be Category 1 credits, which are typically earned through accredited organizations and focus on enhancing medical knowledge and patient care.
  • Special Requirements: Effective November 1, 2018, each licensee must complete at least one hour of education in pain management, opioid use, or addiction annually before renewing their license, unless they do not hold a valid federal DEA registration number.

Fulfilling these requirements ensures that Oklahoma physicians remain current in their medical practice and provide the best possible care to their patients.
